A smile that was radiant and laminated every space that she entered, Vanessa Taylor Lee passed away on December 14, 2023.
She was 68 and died unexpectedly.
Her parents James Lee and Minnie Taylor welcomed this bright light into the world on July 13, 1955. Vanessa, known as Van, by her seven siblings and friends was born in South Bend. She was preceded in death by her father, James Lee.
Vanessa attended South Bend Community Schools and attended Central and LaSalle schools. During this time she worked for both Memorial Hospital and the University of Notre Dame. Family was a very important part of Vanessa’s life. The birth of her daughter, Antoinette Carter, was one of the happiest days of her life. Antoinette became the light of her life. She also enjoyed time and sharing meals with her special aunt, Yvonne Wright.
Being raised in the Spiritual Isreal Church In This Army, Vanessa also valued her spiritual family. They provided her comfort, love, and acceptance. As Vanessa’s family grew, she developed a special and unique relationship with each of her grandchildren and great granddaughter.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Antoinette Carter; two grandsons, Demarcus Halbert and Rickel Kinds; a great granddaughter, Damari Halbert; her mother Bishop Minnie Taylor all of South Bend; three sisters, Spring Taylor, Kay DeBerry both also of South Bend; Reverend Deborah Taylor of Indianapolis, Indiana; four brothers, Paul Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia, Clarence Taylor and Craig (Rose) Clark of South Bend and Jeffery Taylor of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Godmother, Ruth Walker; God children, Damon Watford and Toni Johnson; special lifelong friends, DottyAnn Maefield, Vanessa Hill, Sharon Owens, Valerie Bush along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with her father, she was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Katherine Bonds, Joseph Lee, Sr., and Sally Beasley; grandsons, De’Marius Halbert and Ricky Kinds, Jr.
Van’s carefree spirit and bright light will be passed on to many generations.
