Vannessa Price, affectionately known as Van, departed this world on January 30 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana.  Van was Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 15, 1957, she brought light and love to every life she touched. A beacon of strength, wisdom, and compassion, Van lived a full and enriching life, devoted to her family and community. She had a flair for life that was unmatched, her laughter infectious, and her spirit indomitable. Her unyielding love for her family and commitment to the youth in her community were the driving forces of her life.

Van dedicated a significant part of her life to Dexter Axles in Elkhart, Indiana, from where she retired after many years of unwavering service. Yet, her passion extended well beyond her professional life. She was a vibrant woman with varied interests, from playing bingo to roller skating, from dancing to shopping, and not to forget, her cherished trips to the casino. She also dedicated her time to tutoring and teaching black pride and black excellence in The Black Student Awareness Program in Niles Community Schools. In addition, she tutored students in the ROCK Afterschool Program in several South Bend Middle Schools.

Van leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. She is survived by her children Leslie D. Price, Vernon Price, Marvin Price, and stepsons, Lee (Donna) Burks, and Marvin (Charmaine) Burks, her brother Tommie Bridges, her sister, Darlethie (James) Payne. Her spirit lives on in her grandchildren, KaShawn Price, Shakara Worrell, Vernon Jr., Marlee Price, Elijah Johnson, Kaliah Price, Camron Freshour, and Trevon Blacklaw.  She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie L. Burks, her parents, James and Hannah Bridges, her sister Emily Bridges, brothers Jeffery and Richard Bridges, and her stepdaughter, Renee Burks.
