It is with a sense of profound loss and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Verna Mason, who left us on June 21, 2024, at 2:15 P.M just a few months short of her 78th birthday.
Verna was born on October 16, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, and later moved to South Bend, Indiana, where she lived out her life in tireless service to her community and her loved ones. Verna Mason was a beacon of strength, resilience, and empathy. She was a beloved figure in her community, having devoted three decades of her life to the grocery store where she worked. Verna's steadfast work ethic, infectious smile, and unwavering positivity made her a cherished part of her community.
As Albert Schweitzer once said, "Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing." This quote speaks volumes about Verna's life and the way she lived. She led by example, whether it was in her professional or personal life.
She leaves behind one surviving sister Mary Johnson, four children, Bernadine, Christine, Robert Lee, and Cornillas Johnson, 18 grand children, and 23 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
We invite everyone who knew Verna Mason to remember her fondly, to celebrate her life, and to share their stories, memories, and pictures on her memorial page. In these shared memories and moments, we can find solace and keep her spirit alive. Verna's journey may have reached its final destination, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
