Mr. Vernon Levester Jones departed this life Wednesday September 14, 2022 after an extended illness.
Vernon was born August 12,1952 to Fred and Irene Jones Sr., in Doddsville, Mississippi. At the age of 19 years old he relocated to Florida before moving to South Bend IN.
Vernon met and married the love of his life Sandra Dixon Jones. Unto this union three sons were born.
Mr. Vernon Jones was a very skilled tool and dye maker by trade. He had a talent for fixing machines for well-known businesses. He once was summoned and flown to Canada by the company plane to repair a huge machine. Mr. Jones also worked at South Bend Lathe for 21 years and eventually retired from Bethel College as a heating and air conditioning maintenance person for 20 years. He had a vast collection of classical cars that he preserved and worked on over the years.
Mr. Jones leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years Sandra Lynne Jones, his three sons Vernon Levester Jones Jr (Carlisa) of Atlanta GA, Anthony Lamar Jones (Elizabeth Hanks) and Marcus Wesley Jones both of South Bend IN. He also leaves two sisters Ann Wheeler (Roy) and Jane Mae Hopkins (John), Grandchildren Tyra Jones of South Bend IN, Vernon L. Jones III of Atlanta GA, Nyle Jones of Chicago IL, Erica Jones of Elkhart IN, Alaysia Jones, Anthony Jones Jr, Gavin Jones all of South Bend IN, Gianna Jones and Rori Jones of Atlanta GA, three sisters-in-law Evelyn Dixon, Bettie Dixon (Andre) and Regina Garrett (Willie), two brother in laws, Mark Dixon and Patrick Dixon (Lisa), along with a host of lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services honoring the life, love, labor, and legacy for Mr. Jones will be held on Tuesday September 20, 2022, 12 Noon at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1862 North Olive Street, South Bend, Indiana 46628. Visitation will be held at 11 A.M. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted with Alford’s Mortuary Inc.
