Wilber was born in Prattsville, Arkansas to the late Levi Roosevelt Cooper and Philistine (Lambert) Cooper. He married his sweetheart, Flutie Cooper on October 29, 1961, in Prattsville, Arkansas.
In the early 1960s, Wilber moved his family to South Bend, Indiana, where he found employment at MFDW Furniture Store. After working at MFDW Furniture Store for a few years, Wilber opened his own furniture store, LaSalle Furniture Store. While operating his furniture store, Wilber was employed at AM General and worked as a cab driver. After closing the furniture store, Wilber still worked as a cab driver for many years and continued his employment at AM General, where he worked for 39 years. Wilber had also been a faithful member of Greater Friendship Baptist Church for many years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Cooper; his parents Levi and Philistine Cooper; sister, Palestine Cooper of Little Rock, Arkansas; sister, Cloria Fletcher of South Bend, Indiana; and brother, Rev. Calve Cooper of Redfield, Arkansas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Flutie Cooper of South Bend, Indiana; son, Michael (Alicia) Cooper of Nashville, Tennessee; three grandchildren: Tiffany Cooper-Williams, Jori Cooper and Kendall Cooper; three great-grandchildren: Kilik, Jada, and Aubrey; siblings: Flossie (Wayman, deceased) Walker of Troy, New York; Bishop Alcine (Jeanette) Cooper of Leesville, Lousiana; Rosetta (Henry, deceased) Junior of South Bend, Indiana; and Elizabeth (Secre) McNutt of Colt, Arkansas.
