Wilkins Devon Jackson Jr., known lovingly by his nicknames "Silk Wilk" and "Jack Baby," was born on August 2, 1961, in Indianapolis, IN. Charismatic and fun loving, Wilkins was a beacon of love and support in the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him. A compassionate soul, he radiated an all-embracing warmth that made everyone feel cherished and valued. He carried this love and compassion into his work as a chef, where he brought joy to others through his culinary creations. His passion for cooking led him to obtain a degree in culinary arts from Ivy Tech Community College, a testament to his determination and commitment to his craft.
Wilkins was a protective and loving father and brother, a testament to his deeply caring heart. He was always there for his family, guiding and protecting them from the world's perils. He was a family man in the truest sense, prioritizing the well-being of his loved ones above all else. He was known for his ability to connect with people on any level, leaving a profound impact wherever he went. In the words of his significant other and family, "The way you were always able to connect with people on any level, the impact you left on everywhere you went, is proof and testimony of the beautiful soul you were. Wilkins, know that you were loved."
Wilkins is survived by his brother, Lamont (Cassandra) Jackson; his children, Torrence Hudson, Tamika Wright, Brittany Orr, Devina Jackson, Devin Jackson, Kendrick Nevills, Nadia Troxel, Fransico Jackson, Bryan Jackson, Shamar Jackson, Indigo Jackson; his stepchildren, Robert Cole, Chinderia Cole, Elijah Parker, Kyra Parker, Precious Parker; and his niece, Cayla Jackson and host of other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his father, Wilkins Sr.; mother, Mabel Coley-Maxey; and aunts and uncle, Frederica Coley-Thomas, Willa Beatrice Depriest, Clara L. Brooks, and James Coley.
As we reflect on Wilkins' life, we are reminded of the verse from the Bible, John 14:1-2: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you." This verse is a comforting reminder that Wilkins is now in a peaceful place, free from suffering.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Wilkins' life on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 3:00pm CDT at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, 46601.
