William Earl “Bill” Harris was born on August 25, 1945, in Jackson, Mississippi, to the late Walter Harris and Bettie (O'Bannon) Pittman. He received his early education at Harrison Elementary and later graduated from Central High School in South Bend, Indiana.
A dedicated and hardworking man, William built a long and respected career at AM General, where he faithfully served for 46 years before retiring.
William was united in marriage to the love of his life, Helen (Donaldson) Harris, and together they shared over 57 beautiful years of love, laughter, and partnership. From this union, they were blessed with one daughter, Maisha Anika (Harris) Mackey, and four cherished granddaughters: Dauvanique, Isis, Sahara, and Heiress Mackey, all of whom brought immense joy and pride into his life.
Affectionately known as "Bill," he will be remembered for his quick wit, generous spirit, and zest for life. He loved to travel, bowl, organize football pools, play cards, and spend time joking and laughing with his granddaughters—who were truly the light of his life.
William was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his in-laws Izola and Johnnie Donaldson, his brothers Walter Harris Jr. and Robert Harris, and his sisters Ollie Mae Harris, Iola Groves, and Amy Francis, as well as 8 brothers-in-law.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, and will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Helen, his granddaughters, his sisters Christine Hubbard of Maryland and Rose Orlando of California, and his brothers Hezekiah Harris of Illinois and Alan S. Anderson of Indiana, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
