William “John” Bonds Sr. of Elkhart, Indiana, went on to eternal life Sunday, May 3, 2020. Mr. William Bonds Sr. was born in Forrest City, Arkansas on May 6, 1930, to the union of Dennis Jr. and Martha Bonds. He moved with his family to Indiana in 1952.
Mr. William Bonds Sr., known as John Bonds of 1019 Garfield, was employed by the New York Central Railroad for over 20 years. He also worked for Indiana Highway Material. He worked for many years as a carpenter and truck driver. Mr. Bonds enjoyed his family, watching Jeopardy and Bana Baby (Wheel of Fortune). Most of all, he enjoyed “kicking it, but not high.”
He leaves to cherish fond memories seven children: Debra (Charles) Gross, Delores House, Brenda Carter, Ladelle (Kenneth) Jefferson, Anthony Bonds, Michael (Tanya) Bonds, and Tony Bonds; 57 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren, 21 great, great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Johnny Buford and Katie (Manuel) Higgins; Daughters-in-Law: Irene Bonds and Regina Bonds; as well as a very special grandson, Charles (Contrail) Bonds.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Bonds; his parents; one daughter, Linda Bonds; two sons: William Jr. and Steven Bonds; three sisters: Irene Yancy, Lacy Bell Bradley, and Anabelle Greer; three brothers: Eddie ‘Pop’ Bonds, Welton and Dennis Bonds Jr.; a granddaughter, Danielle Robinson, and a great-grandson, Daniel Robinson.
Interment will take place at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart Indiana.
