Deacon Willie James Alsanders Sr. was born July 31, 1935, to the union of Senobia Cyprian Alsanders and Alvin E. Alsanders in Independence, Louisiana. Deacon Willie James Alsanders left us on Monday, February 5, 2024. He graduated from West Side High School in Amite, Louisiana. He also worked at the Lallie Kemp Charity Hospital in Independence as well Vicks Service Station. While living in Independence, Louisiana he attended Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. He accepted Christ at an early age.
1952 Deacon Willie J. Alsanders relocated from Louisiana to South Bend, IN to be with his father. Deacon Willie J. Alsanders was affectional called “Bubba”, “Red Rooster”, “Dec” and “Little Red Politician” by family and friends.
July 23, 1963, Willie married Ruthie Mae Davis. Willie worked at the following jobs Von’s Landscape, Clark Equipment, and retired from both Lock Joint Tubing and Willie Alsanders Rubbish Service.
Deacon Willie J. Alsanders was a member of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. He served as Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School Board. He left Greater Friendship Missionary and joined New Salem Missionary Baptist Church and has been there for over 25 years. He held many positions at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church Chairman of the Deacons, Trustee, Treasurer and Superintendent of Sunday School. Deacon Willie James Alsanders was a member over 40 years of Saint Peter Lodge #31 as Master Mason.
Deacon Willie James Alsanders enjoyed being around his family and friends. He was the patriot and historian of the family. He always talked about the things he did with his grandma. He loved to talk to people about anything Church, Bible, Trump and Sports you can name the topic. He loved good music gospel, blues and zydeco. He also enjoyed traveling to various cities and getting history on that town. He would go to the various restaurants to eat in the city and of course he always found a friend to talk too.
He leaves to cherish his memory children daughter: Leatha Mae Perkins, sons: Willie James (Samelia) Alsanders Jr., Milton (Debbie) Hunter, and Alvin LaShawn Alsanders. Grandchildren (9): Willie James Alsanders III, Jacob Adams, Shanice Alsanders, Macy Alsanders, Alvin Alsanders Jr., Jamar Alsanders, Alyssa Hunter, Christopher Hunter and Darnell Jess Bloch III. Great grandchildren (5): Jessie Bloch IV, Mihangel Morrell, Aiyhr Alsanders, Alvin Alsanders III, and Aiyhan Alsanders; Sisters (3): Clara (Superintendent Jessie) Hodges, Joyce Mayfield, and Freda (Clinton) Hughley along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruthie Mae Davis Alsanders, mother Senobia Cyprian Alsanders and Father Alvin E. Alsanders, both his maternal grandparents: Aretta Cyprian and Robert Cyprian; paternal grandparents: Anna Alsanders and Evan Alsanders, son: Jessie Darnell Bloch and granddaughter Claressa Smith, brothers: John Morris Alsanders and Robert Charles Alsanders.
