Willie Hewitt Terry departed this life Saturday, May 29, 2021, at his residence. Willie was born June 27, 1935, in Covington Tennessee to the union of Hewitt Terry and Gladys Davis Harris.
Willie received his primary education in the Tennessee School system before relocating to Chicago, Illinois with his parents and siblings.
Willie gave his life to Christ at an early age. While living in Chicago Willie worked as a Shoe Shiner which he said everyone came to his booth because he was the "Best", which we can believe that because he had the gift to gab. Later in life, he moved to South Bend, Indiana where he worked for White Farms, and then for Dodge Foundry from where he retired. Willie's two major accomplishments were his children and the fact that he was sober for 45 years.
Willie's memory will be cherished by his daughters Renata (Steven) Glenn of Sauk Village, Illinois, Loretta Mitchell and Gladys Terry both of South Bend Indiana, Shaurice Terry of Schaumburg, Illinois, and Gwendolyn (Emmanuel) Harris of Bolingbrook, Illinois; his sons: Jerry (Dena) Mitchell of Federal Way, Washington, Andre (MaryAnn) Terry of South Holland, Illinois, Deair Terry of Matteson Illinois and Harry (Evelyn) Michell Jr. of South Bend Indiana. He has a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Watts of Pontiac, Michigan; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends who will miss him.
Willie was preceded in death by his life partner, Vivian Mitchell; parents Hewitt Terry and Gladys Davis Harris; a sister, Shirley Sanders; brothers-in-law: Percy Sanders and Eddie Watts; sons: Lester Terry and Lawrence Mitchell; and grandson, Cordell Mahone Jr.; and a brother, John Terry.
