Woodruff Nathaniel Easley Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as "Woody," was born on December 7, 1947, in Chicago, IL, USA. On December 1, 2025, at the age of 77, he embarked on his final adventure.
A native of Chicago, Woody attended Benjamin W. Raymond Elementary and Wendell Phillips High School in the Bronzeville Area before enlisting in the U.S. Army. His adventurous spirit took him from the windy city of Chicago to the tranquil streets of South Bend, Indiana, where he resided until his departure.
Woody, a man of many talents, had a penchant for reggae music and York peppermint patties. Woody was known to break into song and dance, his infectious laughter and charismatic energy permeating the room. His love was most evident in his marriage, which was a testament to his devotion and commitment, a love that remained even after his beloved wife Shirley Easley preceded him in death.
Woody is survived by his loving family, his son, Woodruff III; his daughter, Jamila Anderson (Easley); his granddaughters, Jazmine and Trinette; his grandsons, Travis, Christopher, Adrian and Andrew; his great-granddaughters, Nariyah, London, Catalaya, Nailah, and Neziah; his great-grandson, Liam; his sisters, Denise, Sharon, Dolly, and Elocin "Nikki"; his brothers, Gregory, Eric (Beverly), and Pierre. He will also be dearly missed by cousins Carey Pierce, Jethroe Knazze Jr., (Cindy), Carol Henderson and the Pierce family, a very special friend, Danny Cureton and the Cureton family, Milton Smith and the Smith family, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Woody was preceded in death by his loving wife of many years, Shirley (Joshua) Easley; father, Woodruff Sr., his mother Gertrude Scott (Easley), his, his sister Vickie (Carlos), his twin brothers, Kevin and Kelvin (Shirley), Vernon and brothers-in-law Norman and Floyd.
A visitation will be held in his honor at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, 46601, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 2:00pm EST. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location at 3:00pm EST. We invite all who knew and loved Woody to join us in celebrating his exceptional life.
