Mrs. Wright was a God-fearing woman who always stressed the need for prayer. In the early 40’s she joined Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Alexander. She was a member of the Missionary Circle #2 and the Leisure Ladies Retirement Club. She was employed by Dr. Kenneth Kitner Optometry where she cleaned the office for 50 years. She retired from Dodge Manufacturing Company in 1982 where she also cleaned offices.
Mrs. Wright was a widow at a young age but kept her family together and moved forward with strength and grace. She raised her children in her Longley Street home of 67 years. She was an excellent cook and happily fed family and friends on countless occasions. Her home has a history of family gatherings, parties, and reunions that took place starting in the 50’s. It was a home filled with love where everyone always came because they knew they were welcomed. Mrs. Wright enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved traveling and went on several cruises.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children, Elliott and wife Diane Callahan of Dallas, Texas; George and wife, Doris Wright of South Bend; Makini and husband Samuel Hammond of San Diego, California and Donna M. Wright also of South Bend; her grandchildren, Tyreese Guiden Sr., Natasha Wright, Erica Person, Ralph Person, J'vonde Whitmore all of South Bend; Chanel and husband, Marlon Phillips of Lavergne, Tennessee and Aaron and wife Karen Wright of Seattle, Washington; Mechelle and husband Christopher James of Midlothian, Texas; Keith and his wife Yvette Callahan of Phoenix, Arizona; David Callahan of Fort Worth, Texas, Ashaki Noni and husband Dion Nichols of McDonagh, Georgia and Dimiko Lee Wright-Thompson of Douglassville, Georgia, along with many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Joseph (Daddy Joe) Lee, Sr.; a son, Ralph Wright and all of her siblings whom she took care of during their illnesses: Ulysses Moody, Vergie Munlin, Joseph Lee Jr., James Lee,
Herbert Lee and Betty Taylor.
Mom’s prayer was to live to see 100 and we thank God and Dr. Sachin Patel and Dr. Asima Rashid her cardiologist and family doctor for keeping alive to see 100. We also thank her caregivers over the past several years Stephanie Watts, Kristy Miser, Phyllis McMorris, Vicky Griffin, her niece Sonia Bibbs and grandson, Tyreese Guiden Sr. We also thank Melissa who assisted with hospice care. She will be sorely missed by family and her BFFs Ida Wigfall and Catherine Williams.
Rest on Dear Mom and take your rest; although we all love you, God loves you best.
