Venelle M Jones

Venelle Michele Jones passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the age of 55 at Memorial Hospital following an illness surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in South Bend, Indiana on September 16, 1962 to the union of Alice Lucille (Robertson) Jones and the late Robert Eugene Jones. Michele was a member of Power of Praise Church where she was deemed one of the mothers of the church.

Michele attended South Bend schools where she graduated from John Adams High School in 1979. She attended Premier Beauty College where she earned a degree in cosmetology. Michele continued her education at Ivy Tech Community College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Business.

Michele worked for several years with the South Bend Housing Authority in the area of Tenant Relations. She worked with the South Bend Community School Corporation as a paraprofessional in Special Education at Brown Middle School. Michele also did hair out of her home until her health began to decline.

Michele is survived by her daughter Toccara Smith, one grandson Justin Thompson Jr., her best friend Sharon Jackson, and a special son-in-law Kimani Anderson. Michele also leaves to cherish her memory her mother Alice Lucille Plumb, brother Leroy Robinson of South Bend, sisters Stephanie (Willie) Hunt of South Bend, Cindy Spriggs and Dena (Michael) Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceding Michele in death are her father Robert Eugene Jones, son Robert Terrell (Chief) Jones, sister Gail Jones, niece LaTosha Fultz, and a brother-in-law Al Spriggs.

Michele loved to be called “Nell”. She loved listening to music, dancing, playing cards, doing hair, crocheting, doing “knock-knock” jokes with her grandson Jay-Jay and going to the boat. Michele is best known for her beautiful Afghans that she made special for all who wanted one.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Alford’s Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana where the funeral services will take place at 4:00 pm.

The family of Venelle Michele Jones would like to thank the staff of Memorial Hospital and Dr. Jason Marker for the excellent care given to her during her time of need.
